I got bit by a spider on Monday night.

Day one, I didn't even notice it. On day two, it started to swell a little and bother me. On day three, it hurts to even touch it in the slightest.

I hope the pictures I've seen of brown recluse spider bites is not what happens to my finger.

I got bit on the index finger of my dominant hand.

If I lose my finger, I can't type or use chopsticks or pick my nose...wait, I'd still probably be able to do that.

*whimper*

Perhaps you should have it checked out, just to be on the safe side. A woman I worked with at ADESA was bit in the leg by a spider and went to the doctor because she was having a bad reaction.

Dude, that's the grossest picture ever.

Don't worry - Shipley will save the day!

maybe it's like every camp-story ever told and thousands of spiders are incubating in your hand as you read this. But maybe not. But maybe.

To answer Melissa's question as to why I look up pictures like that: Yes, it freaks me out to the point of unnecessary, but I like to think it's a way to "keep me honest" so to speak. It's a constant reminder to not take my hand for granted, and to keep spiders like that out of my apartment.

While perusing pictures like that, I came across an article that stated that only 10% of brown recluse spider bites become necrotic, like the one in the picture. That was rather reassuring news.

And no, so far I don't have my colon oozing out of my index finger, so that's good.
